This was a  hike to Painted Cave in Bandelier National Monument. It started from the Dome Trail head, high in the San Miguel Mountains, down to Capulin Canyon and to the cave. It was capably led by Larry Hughes. This hike was a cool, breezy epic at 14.37 miles and 2747 feet of climbing. I hike twice a  week and to give it context, this is the best day hike I have done in a long while.

It’s nice to see that Bandelier has recovered some magic after the fires of recent years.

A note about distance and altitude measurement. I use three methods of track measurement and average the results to get the best accuracy. I won’t go into the technical details of how I do it but will provide the information on request.
